Ils avaient été soulevés et placés sur des calages pour l'hiver, et il fallait d'abord les descendre pour les déposer sur des patins, grâce auxquels on pouvait les transporter jusqu'au fleuve, de côté. L'homme au sifflet est Alex MacKintosh, le chef de chantier, et chaque fois qu'il donnait un coup de sifflet, les ouvriers tournaient leur cric d'un cran, jusqu'à ce que le bateau soit bien installé sur les patins, après quoi on pouvait le laisser glisser jusqu'au fleuve … »
