La magnifique vallée de Leitzarán, classée Biotope Protégé en raison de la qualité des forêts qui bordent la rivière Leitzarán, est une zone peu peuplée où l’homme a traditionnellement fait un usage intensif de la force de l‘eau pour faire tourner ses forges et ses moulins. Au début du XXe siècle, un chemin de fer minier, baptisé Plazaola, fut construit pour traverser la vallée, aujourd’hui reconverti en voie verte pour les randonneurs et les cyclistes.

The beautiful Leitzaran Valley was declared a protected biotope because of the quality of its riverside forest. Historically, this sparsely inhabited area harnessed the power of the water to run foundries and mills. The early 20th century saw the construction of Plazaola, a mining railway that ran the length of the valley. Today the former railway line is a greenway for the use of walkers and cyclists. Access to the valley is from the town of Andoain. In summer, the valley is very popular among families who come to cool off in the beautiful forest and river setting.

El precioso valle de Leizarán, declarado Biotopo protegido por la calidad del bosque alrededor del río Leizarán, es una zona poco habitada, donde históricamente se ha hecho un aprovechamiento intensivo de la fuerza de sus aguas con ferrerías y molinos. A principios del siglo XX se construyó un ferrocarril minero que recorría todo el valle, el Plazaola, que actualmente se ha reconvertido en Vía verde para senderistas y ciclistas. El acceso al valle se realiza por Andoain. Es un valle muy frecuentado por las familias en los meses cálidos, donde se puede disfrutar de la naturaleza y de la frescura del bosque y el río.

Leitzarango haran zoragarria Biotopo babestua deklaratu dute, Leitzaran ibaiaren inguruko basoaren kalitateagatik. Oso habitatua ez den gunea da, non historikoki bertako uren indarraren aprobetxamendu intentsiboa egin izan den burdinola eta errotekin. XX. mendearen hasieran meatzaritzako burdinbide bat eraiki zuten, haran osoa zeharkatzen zuena: Plazaola, orain mendizale eta txirrindularientzako bide berde bihurtua. Haranera Andoaindik heltzen da. Hilabete epeletan familiak etorri ohi dira haran honetako naturaz eta basoaren eta ibaiaren freskuraz gozatzera.
