Mi dreuliais i lawer iawn o'm hamser yn siarad am y Polisi Amaethyddol Cyffredin a'r rhagolygon ar gyfer ffermio organig yn y Cynllun Datblygu Gwledig newydd. Fel y rhan fwyaf ohonon ni, dw i'n dal i geisio mynd i'r afael â'r manylion ond mae yna rai synau calonogol yn dod o Ewrop.
Tony Little, from Organic Centre Wales said 'I thought it was a good show. We saw many of our old friends and made a few new ones. Much of my time was spent talking about CAP reform and the prospects for organic farming in the new RDP. Like most of us, I'm still getting to grips with the detail, but there are some encouraging noises coming out of Europe. I'd like to thank all our fellow exhibitors, and all those who took the time to come and see us'

Mae'r galw am laeth o'r fferm yn dda i ardderchog, ers Mis Medi Organig mae'r galw oddi wrth nifer o broseswyr wedi cynyddu'n sylweddol, gydag unrhyw laeth tu hwnt i gytundeb yn gwerthu am bremiwm. Unwaith bydd y tymor newydd yn dechrau ganol mis Mawrth nesaf bydd yna ddigon i gwrdd â'r galw, rwy'n rhagweld bydd cyflenwad yn dynn tan hynny.
Demand for milk ex farm is good to excellent, since Organic September demand from a number of processors has increased substantially, with non-contracted milk selling at a premium to the contract price. When the new season starts mid-March next year demand will be more than satisfied, supplies are expected to be tight until then. On Liquid bottle sales, Calon Wen sales figures have shown a steady increase in sales with the majority of retail customers. Cheddar sales are steady and Calon Wen's new Preseli Blue and Crumbly Caerffili are selling well. Butter is flying of the shelves in spite of the marked difference in price with conventional.

Roedd gan yr ysgol ei stondin ei hun yn gwerthu crymblau ffrwythau, bisgedi, trimins coed a marmalêd y Nadolig a bu pob dosbarth yn paratoi rhywbeth i'w werthu. Hefyd roedd yna gaffi'n gwerthu diodydd poeth ac oer, roedd Siôn Corn yn ei ogof, cerddoriaeth, raffl a hyd yn oed peiriant eira.
The market was held after school on Monday 13 December. There were 12 producer stalls, selling meat, cakes, flowers, vegetables, Christmas trees, gifts, cards and hampers. The school had its own stall selling fruit crumbles, biscuits, tree decorations and Christmas marmalade, and every class made something to sell. There was also a cafe area with hot and cold drinks, Father Christmas in his grotto, music, a raffle and even a snow machine.

Mae'r mwyafrif o ffermwyr organig Cymru, sef tua 80%, yn cadw gwartheg a defaid ar gyfer cynhyrchu cig. Mae cynhyrchu llaeth hefyd yn bwysig, yn arbennig yn y de-orllewin a'r gogledd-ddwyrain, ac mae yna nifer llai o ffermydd yn cynhyrchu dofednod, moch, grawnfwydydd, llysiau a ffrwyth.
The majority of Welsh organic farmers, around 80%, keep cows and sheep for meat production. Dairying is also important especially in the southwest and northeast, and there are smaller number of farms producing poultry, pigs, cereals, vegetables and fruit. Some sell directly to the public, offer holiday accommodation or welcome school visits, so you can get in touch with them direct. Many have their own websites.

“There was a scarcity of Welsh language child care this side of Cardiff, but we were also determined to take a holistic approach to the whole project. Dywed y ddau frawd, Dafydd a John Jones o Faesterran, mai un broblem yw'r cyfle a ddaw i ran gwiddon y clafr rhwng yr hydref pryd defnyddir dipiau OP gan rai ffermwyr, a thymor y gwanwyn pryd defnyddir triniaethau chwistrelladwy cyn y tymor ŵyna gan ffermwyr eraill.
An organic farm near Machynlleth is taking part in a pioneering programme to eradicate sheep scab in their area, by working with over 30 neighbouring sheep farmers. Brothers Dafydd and John Jones of Maesterran say that one problem is the window of opportunity for scab mites between the traditional use of OP dips by some farmers in the autumn, and the use of injectable scab treatments by others before lambing in the spring. In January, scanning in particular is seen as a potential vector for flock-to-flock transmission of scab mites. With this in mind, the plan involves preventive scab treatments across the initiative's entire catchment area from January to September, using either an OP dip or an injectable moxidectin-based product licensed with 60-day persistency.

Mae garddwriaeth yn sector amrywiol a gasgaredig yng Nghymru ac mae yna ddiffyg garw o wybodaeth fanwl. Horticulture is a varied and dispersed sector in Wales and detailed information is sorely lacking. This makes it difficult to develop markets or to represent the industry's needs or to ensure that horticulture is fully included in policy making and rural development support programmes. So, as part of the work to improve supply chain and market information, ADAS, on behalf of Horticulture Wales, is collecting information on producers and processors in the Welsh Horticulture industry, including the ornamental sector.

  Cyhoeddi cyfraddau tali...
Yn ôl Tony Little, Canolfan Organig Cymru, 'Rydyn ni'n croesawu'r cyhoeddiad hwn. Mae'n golygu cynnydd sylweddol yn y taliadau cynnal i ffermwyr sydd yn y cynllun presennol. Mae'r adborth y mae'r Ganolfan Organig Cymru wedi'i dderbyn ynghylch lefelau'r taliadau hyn wedi bod yn gadarnhaol. Roedd y rhan fwya o ffermwyr yn y Cynllun Ffermio Organig ar hyn o bryd yn croesawu'r cynnydd yn y taliadau sydd wedi rhoi hwb i'w hyder o ran dal ati i ffermio'n organig. Am y tro cynta ers blynyddoedd lawer, rydyn ni hefyd wedi derbyn nifer bach o ymholiadau gan ffermwyr sy'n ystyried troi'n organig. Mae premiymau isel yn parhau'n destun pryder i gynhyrchwyr cig oen ac eidion ac er bod gwerthiant organig wedi cynyddu eleni, mae yna ansicrwydd o hyd ynglŷn â'r farchnad. Fodd bynnag, yn gyffredinol, mae'r cyhoeddiad wedi cael derbyniad da. Mae llawer o'r manylion heb fod ar gael eto, gan gynnwys, yn hollbwysig, union ddiffiniad 'tir pori garw' a'r gofynion cynllunio busnes, ond daw'r cwbl yn amlwg erbyn Sioe Frenhinol Cymru.
Tony Little from Organic Centre Wales said: 'We welcome this announcement. It means a significant increase in maintenance payments for farmers who are in the current scheme. The feedback that OCW has received has been positive. Most farmers currently in the OFS welcomed the increase in payments, which has boosted their confidence about continuing to farm organically. We have also received a small number of enquiries for farmers considering conversion for the first time in many years. Low premiums are still a concern for beef and lamb producers and although organic sales have increased this year uncertainties remain about the market, overall the announcement has been well received. Much of the detail is not yet available, crucially the precise definition of 'rough grazing' and the business planning requirements, but all will become clear by the Royal Welsh Show.'

“Working with producers who have an organic certification is also a fantastic way of guaranteeing traceability – something that the conventional food industry seems to have lost its way on a little. I love visiting food fairs and farmers' markets as a way of trying new things and meeting new suppliers and there are great examples in Wales of producers who aren't afraid to experiment with different tastes and varieties.

Er mwyn profi hyn, rhaid cadw cofnodion manwl, a chael ymweliad blynyddol gan archwiliwr. Mae yna elfen o hyblygrwydd i'r safonau sydd yn galluogi'r archwiliwr i farnu pob achos yn annibynnol. Besides certifying producers, the control bodies license other elements of the food production chain, including processors and abattoirs. They may also certify imported organic food. When you apply for certification, you will receive a copy of that organization's standards, and you will be required to follow these at all times. To prove that you are following them you will have to keep detailed records, and be visited by an inspector once a year. The standards include an element of flexibility allowing cases to be judged individually. In certain cases you may apply to your control body for a 'derogation' or official permission to waive the requirements, particularly as the organic market is still developing and organic inputs may be scarce. read more

A report from the Soil Association suggests that widespread adoption of organic farming practices in the UK would offset 23% of UK agricultural emissions through soil carbon sequestration alone. A worldwide switch to organic farming could offset 11% of all global greenhouse gas emissions. Raising soil carbon levels would also protect soils from droughts and floods, leading to greater food security. On average organic farming produces 28% higher levels of soil carbon than non-organic farming in Northern Europe. In the UK, grasslands and mixed farming systems also have a vital role to play, and soil carbon may offset much of the methane emissions from grass-fed cattle and sheep. read more

This text is likely to include proposals requiring a low percentage of monogastric feed to be sourced from the region, to allow the current level of 5% of non-organic inputs (with this limited to proteins) with the percentage based on the overall feed figure until 31 December 2014, then with a view to move to <1% on an ongoing basis to allow for minor inclusions. The ability to use non-organic pullets is likely to continue for up to two more years.

The organic dairy market ended 2015 on a positive note with sales of Branded Calon Wen products well up on the previous year. Supplies of organic dairy milk are in short supply, as you would expect with seasonal production close to its usual nadir in February. This will be slightly offset this year by the extra day but overall there is unlikely to be an overhang of production as the milk supplies increase in the Spring. The wet weather has been a challenge for organic as for conventional with slurry stores at capacity but providing the better weather of recent days continues this will ease and enable cattle to be turned out at their usual time from mid-February onwards. In the Spring Calon Wen will be launching a frozen yoghurt so keep an eye out for this exciting new addition to the Calon Wen range.

The Soil Association and the Organic Growers Alliance (OGA) are calling on growers and gardeners to be vigilant following renewed cases of damaged crops due to manure contaminated with the herbicide aminopyralid. The symptoms include misshapen leaves and fruit, reduced yield, death of young plants, and poor seed germination. Aminopyralid can remain active even after the crop to which it has been applied has been eaten by a horse or cow, passed through the animal, been stored as farm yard manure, and applied to another crop.

Er gwaethaf yr adroddiad diweddaraf ar y farchnad oddi wrth Gymdeithas y Pridd, sy'n dangos gostyngiad o 1.5% mewn gwerthiant organig tebyg wrth debyg ar draws y DU, mae yna nifer o dueddau cadarnhaol yn y sector organig Cymreig.
Despite the latest annual market report from the Soil Association showing an overall 1.5% dip in like-for-like organic sales across the UK, there are a number of positive trends in the Welsh organic sector. The Welsh Organic Producer Survey revealed strong demand for organic meat, with sales of beef up by 32% and [market ready] lamb up by 69%, as well as a 10.6% growth in sales of organic milk. While these figures, which were boosted by a number of Welsh farms completing their organic certification in 2011-12 are encouraging, there is a concern that the combination of pressure on organic feed prices and changes to support payments for organic farmers will force many of Wales's organic producers to revert back to non-organic production over the next few years.
