I am finally nearing Yangshuo at the end of a 29 hour journey. I met four other travellers who got on the bus at Wuzhou, all of us going to the same place, the Yangshuo Youth Hostel.

André and Guylaine dropped me off at the local youth hostel only a few blocks from their home. By the time we got there the weather had turned nasty again showing how volatile the climate can be on the North Shore.

André et Guylaine m'ont déposé à l'auberge de jeunesse du l'endroit située à quelques coins de rue de leur maison. Au moment de notre arrivée, la température était redevenue désagréable démontrant à quel point le climat peut être changeant sur la Côte Nord.

I felt that the Sept-Îles youth hostel was great but this one was even better. The place was full up with people from all over the world but I got in for I had fortunately made a reservation before leaving Montreal for Greenland.

J'avais trouvé l'auberge de jeunesse de Sept-îles formidable mais celle-ci était encore mieux. L'endroit était rempli de gens du monde entier mais j'y ai trouvé une place car j'avais heureusement fait une réservation avant de quitter Montréal pour le Groenland.

First thing I had to do upon arriving in Canton (the western name of this place), was to find a bed. I was lucky, for there was room at the Guangzhou Youth Hostel which is hard to beat at 10 US$ a night!

La première chose que j'ai faite en arrivant à Canton (le nom qu'on donne à cette ville dans l'ouest), fut de me trouver un lit. J'avais de la chance car il y avait encore des places libres à l'Auberge de Jeunesse de Guangzhou au prix imbattable de 10 US$ la nuit!

I stayed at the Batavia Backpackers. This is one of three buildings, built in 1887, that served as a hospital and later as a prison before being abandoned and finally restored to become a superb youth hostel.

Une nourriture très bon marché, un hébergement pas cher du tout et de beaux parcs sont autant d'attractions pour ceux qui aiment voyager à peu de frais. Cette photo de ma chambre à l'Auberge de Jeunesse de Changzhou, montre bien que voyager à peu de frais n'est pas une tâche ardue en Chine. Jeune ou vieux, seul ou en groupe, tout le monde peut le faire et beaucoup le font. C'est certainement beaucoup mieux, quand on est à la retraite, que de passer son temps à regarder la télé ou à jouer au golf en Floride.
