De volgende tien dagen zullen Griekse en Belgische teams in de Delta samenwerken om het gedrag van de zwanen te bestuderen, hun verspreiding tussen de verschillende lagunes te observeren, demografische gegevens te verzamelen door het bepalen van de proportie jongen en de gemiddelde familiegrootte. Het doel is ook om te gaan kijken naar elke site waar de Kleine Zwaan '854x', die in de toendra van Yamal (Siberië) werd uitgerust met een gps-zender op 14/07/2015, werd gelokaliseerd.

Starting today, and for 10 days, the Greek and Belgian teams are joining forces to study the behaviour of swans in the Evros, their distribution between the different lagoons, and their demographics by determining the proportion of young and brood size. The aim is also to go and see each site where the Bewick 854X, equipped with a GPS transmitter on 14/07/2015 in the tundra of Yamal (Siberia), has been located since its arrival in the Evros Delta on December 12th, 2015. That will create the opportunity to accurately determine the habitats used by this ”sentinel swan” and their relative importance. Such data are very useful for the conservation of the species which provides the possibility, if necessary, to propose appropriate management measures. The GPS localization of the transmitter was set at 1 hour intervals. This will engender even more accurate data in the coming days. The procedure will be limited in time because it obviously demands a lot of energy and it could drain the solar battery.

À partir du 05/02/2016, et pour 10 jours, les équipes grecques et belges se retrouvent dans le Delta afin d’étudier ensemble le comportement des cygnes, leur répartition entre les différentes lagunes et leur démographie en déterminant la proportion de jeunes et la taille des familles. L’objectif est également d’aller observer chaque site où a été localisé depuis son arrivée le 12/12/2015, le Bewick 854X, équipé d’un émetteur GPS le 14/07/2015 dans la toundra de Yamal (Sibérie). Cela permettra de déterminer précisément les habitats utilisés par ce « cygne sentinelle », ainsi que leur importance relative, et donc de disposer de données utiles pour assurer la conservation de l’espèce par, le cas échéant, des mesures de gestion adaptées. L’intervalle de localisation de l’émetteur a été fixé à 1h à compter du 05/02/2016. Cela permettra d’obtenir des données encore plus précises au cours des jours suivants. Cette procédure sera limitée dans le temps car elle est évidemment coûteuse en énergie et risquerait d’épuiser la batterie solaire.
