Since the 8th of October, and for two weeks, the European Canine Team is carrying out inspections to find poisoned baits and poisoned wildlife in the region of Meteora-Antichasia and Koziakas, in Central Greece. This action is taking place within the framework of an international LIFE project, "Life against poison" (LIFE09 NAT/ES/000533), implemented in the area by the NGO Arcturos. The Hellenic Ornithological Society (HOS) is in close collaboration with Arcturos and their current LIFE project, and therefore has participated actively in the inspections. In this same area, HOS field ornithologists have monitored four Egyptian vulture active nests this year, one of which was lost to poison baits at the very beginning of the breeding season - only one of the birds of the pair survived, Lazaros, now at its wintering grounds in Chad.
