Nonetheless, real measures cannot be seen on the horizon. The latest amendments to the Social Insurance Code, approved by the government but yet to be voted by Parliament, provide for an increase of contributions period, aimed at the future pensioners to pay contributions longer and to receive pensions for a shorter period. But nothing is being done about transfer of more money (and covering of more people) in private pension accounts in private funds which would be a real beginning of the reform of the pay-as-you-go model and the creation of a sustainable capital pillar in parallel with the social one. It is such a measure that could increase the deficit and probably the debt.

In parallel to enhancing its media presence in the EU, the Union should also work in its periphery and neighbourhood. The creation of a powerful European TV or other media channel would not cost the common European budget a lot of money, but it will significantly increase the EU's weight as a geopolitical factor and domestically it could notably mitigate the quickly growing and gaining political power anti-European voices. From a Bulgarian point of view, Mr Verhofstadt is completely unacceptable because he enjoys the support of the most controversial political formation in Bulgaria, believed to be the founder of the current severe economic and political situation - the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS). The party which functions in the most non-transparent way, which is surrounded by countless unresolved mysteries and which is always at the epicentre of events. A party which is really hard to call democratic and even less a bearer of European values. This is the party which is known to be existing entirely thanks to controlled or bought vote which does not allow for additional votes to help increase the Liberals in the EP in support of Verhofstadt. This raises the question of the Belgian is ready to demonstrate rigidity in terms of the problems Bulgaria has and which can be seen in many of the former communist countries, especially and in a greater extent in the enlargement countries.

Защитната стена на еврозоната всъщност са двата спасителни фонда - временният Европейски инструмент за финансова стабилност (EFSF) и постоянният Европейски механизъм за стабилност (ЕМС), който първоначално беше планирано да поеме от временния фонд от юли 2013, но лидерите на ЕС се разбраха през декември той да започне да функционира още от тази година.

The big controversy, though, was and as it seems still is, is whether the EU to increase the size of the firewall first and only then the G20 to provide money. The eurozone firewall is in fact the two rescue funds - the temporary European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF) and the permanent European Stability Mechanism (ESM), which was initially planned to take over from the temporary fund from July 2013 but the EU leaders have agreed in December the ESM to start operations yet this year.
