In bygone days, intensive processing of agricultural crops with pesticides, including aviation methods was widely used in Tajikistan. Up to 17-20 thousand tons of various chemicals and pesticides was annually consumed, including chlorine-organic components, which are likely carcinogenic. As a result, many areas have been contaminated by residual products of these chemicals, that is being observed till now. Concentrations of pollutants in soils and river bottom sediments are still high. From the beginning of 1980-s, air processing of cotton fields with pesticides, except defoliation has been forbidden in the republic. And now it is not applied because of its high cost.
