Let me give you a simple example from the middle of the value-added chain on how energy consumption can be reduced: Folding presses are used to bend housings for appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines. Our Drive and Control Technology division has devel-oped a “Rexroth for Energy Efficiency” program, or 4EE for short, which allows industrial sys-tems to be optimized by means of integrated energy system design, efficient components, en-ergy recovery and storage, and energy on demand. As an example, a folding press consumes 44 percent less energy after being redesigned on the basis of this methodology. We have to use this approach to address all processes in the value-added chain: in the case of the housings, from the production of the metal to the final spray of paint.
