Studies show that especially in recent years women tend to leave Armenia due to the family reunification, in order to join their husbands. However, there have as well been many women who have left for abroad as an individual, with the purpose to work and to earn money. In fact, the reasons of migration may be different. If we compare the high, middle and low classes, then we can say that the middle class population migrates from Armenia the most. This assumes that the poor socio-economic conditions should not be considered as the only reason of migration. At the airports and borders people are not asked the real reason of their departure. In fact, there is no need for surveys because one may never know whether the person will tell the truth or will hide the real reason.

It is difficult to give precise statistical data since it assumes annual research and studies which, in turn, require huge monetary assets. This would not be so realistic to conduct in Armenia due to the current socio-economic conditions in the country. However, I can say that there are no significant trends in return statistics to Armenia. There are still not adequate socio-economic conditions in Armenia which could encourage the return of emigrants. Although poor socio-economic conditions are not the only reason for high levels of migration from Armenia, promotion of small and medium-sized businesses will not only encourage the return of migrants but also will significantly contribute to the reduction of the current high levels of migration.

I’m 24 now. One and a half years have passed. I’m still a young, good-looking guy. At first glance I don’t differ from others and got over my HIV status. I even started an affair with someone with hepatitis “B” and told my family and friends about my status. But all this didn’t leave me without any loss. My sister’s husband forbade her and their children to communicate with me, their door is no longer open for me, and if they know that I will attend our family meetings, they won’t come. By observing the history of gender equality of our country, we come to the conclusion that the agenda of gender equality is rooted in Armenian history since ancient times. Meanwhile, laws and bills of both ancient and modern history contain such provisions that speak about equality of women and men, as well as on their legal equality that had directly affected diverse political systems. Ancient state bills prove that even in ancient times, when there was no European Union, European Council, United Nations and other institutions, nor internationally binding conventions, women were considered equal members of our society. In the meantime, equality was involved in matters such are the rights of inheritance and of having property, as well as in other rights.

The first and the foremost obstacle is stemming from the society; you do something and they don’t support you, and vice versa, they somewhat hinder you. On the other hand, one shall be more watchful as freedoms of speech and expression are not protected in Armenia which is putting one and one’s activism in greater danger. True, anything terrible has never happened to me so far, yet there have been many threats. Another obstacle is the fact that there is no consensus among other organizations on the manner of attitude regarding the work on women’s rights and gender equality. As a result, the cooperation is harder to achieve, which is resulting in some shortcomings and we move on with difficulty, by devoting more time on solving the same exact problem. Having a big family and children is a little bit of obstacle; nonetheless I have also found the way to overcome it.

Նույնիսկ այն մարդիկ, որ լավ ճանաչում էին Բերտային, չկարողացան գնահատել/ընդունել գեղանկարչության մեջ իր նորարարական ուղին: Ժոզեֆ Գիշարն, ում մոտ Բերտան սովորել էր գեղանկարության հիմունքներին, գրելով Բերտայի մորը այդ ցուցահանդեսից իր տպավորությունների մասին, նշում է. «Երբ մտա այնտեղ, հարգելի տիկին Մորիզո, ընկճվածության զգացումը տիրեց ինձ, տեսնելով ձեր դստեր գործերն այդ անառողջ միջավայրում… Եթե բարեխղճորեն նայենք, ապա ինչ-որ տեղ կարելի է գտնել հիանալի գործեր, բայց դրանք բոլորն էլ այս կամ այն կերպ այնքան էլ նորմալ չեն:

Even the people that knew Berthe well were unable to appreciate/accept the art in the innovative way. Unfortunately, there is no legal framework, no policy and even any perceptions to address bullying in Armenia. While the situation even worse than can be expected, because in addition to abovementioned reasons here comes Armenian mentality, intolerance to everything beyond established “traditional rules”, “ nationality myths”, low level of awareness and legal consciousness, lack of respect in the society.
