In the first two decades following independence, the technology industry in Armenia has been focused on the capital, Yerevan, and has been driven by foreign direct investment (at scale), through investments in local development operations or M&A activity. In the past few years, there have been a number of public and private initiatives to drive tech investment and activity in the regions of the country and outside of Armenia, beyond the traditional sub-sectors of EDA and outsourcing, and toward the creation of a viable entrepreneurial environment, and improved access to funds including venture financing. Panelists in this session will provide multiple examples of this shift, and what it means for the near future.
