In dieser Zeit haben auf dem Königshof die Feste, in den Städten die Tänze und auf dem Land die Schlachtfeste stattgefunden. Sich vor der Fastenzeit noch einmal richtig satt zu essen und zu amüsieren, so lautete das Hauptziel des Faschings. Maskenfest, das meistens am Fastnachtsdienstag, also am Dienstag vor dem Aschermittwoch veranstaltet wurde, war den Höhepunkt des Faschings. Am Aschermittwoch wurden am letzten Mal schmalziges Gebäck mit Kaffee oder Milch konsumiert, am Vormittag war noch Schnaps erlaubt. Zum Mittagessen war schon hartes Fasten, man hat z.B. Linsen mit Eier, Käse, Brot, gekochter Grieß, gebratene Kartoffeln.
