L?herbier est typique des herbiers de faibles profondeurs où les perturbations physiques naturelles (dessiccation, vagues, couvert de glace) sont plus sévères. L?échantillonnage a permis de recenser 99 taxons constituant la faune épiphyte, benthique, suprabenthique et ichtyenne de l?herbier. Une forte proportion de cette faune est composée de juvéniles ce qui confirme le rôle écologique, généralement bien documenté, de pouponnière des herbiers. Comparativement à un milieu non-végétalisé (banc coquillier) situé à proximité de l?herbier, la communauté benthique de l?herbier est plus diversifiée et sa biomasse trois fois plus élevée.

Ainsi, il fut possible de déterminer quelle était la rivière Sainte-Croix. En déterminant le lieu de l'embouchure de la rivière près de St. Andrews, à Joe's Point plus précisément, les îles Grand Manan, Campobello et Deer ont officiellement fait partie du Nouveau-Brunswick. D'autres îles de la région ont été déclarées américaines. Peu après, des arpenteurs ont remonté la rivière Sainte-Croix jusqu'à la rencontre des comtés actuels de Carleton et York où ils ont érigé un monument pour marquer le lieu.
