Federico di Santo studierte Klassische Philologie sowohl an der Universität als auch der Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa und promovierte anschließend in Vergleichender Literaturwissenschaft. Gleichzeitig führte er seine musikalische Ausbildung am Konservatorium in L’Aquila als Violinist und Komponist fort. Die Schwerpunkte seiner Forschung sind der Dichter Torquato Tasso, die Epik der italienischen Renaissance – besonders Bezüge zur Homerischen Dichtung –, Literaturtheorie und Ästhetik (Genealogia della mimesis, 2016), Musikdramaturgie sowie die italienische Metrik und Stilistik. In diese letzten Bereiche lässt sich auch sein zweijähriges Forschungsprojekt einordnen, das er derzeit als Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research Fellow an der Freien Universität Berlin unter der Betreuung von Prof. Dr. Bernhard Huß durchführt. Das Ziel ist dabei, eine Theorie und Geschichte des Reims in der italienischen und europäischen Literatur auszuarbeiten.
