It is quite clear that the organic message is not getting through to consumers and the need for a major retailer to get on board is ever more important – we wait for 2016 with anticipation!

A lot of local events were held and the local community supported each event wholeheartedly. Everyone wanted the play/community area and therefore everyone worked hard to support and help raise the necessary funds. We did have a couple of set backs - we applied to the National Lottery twice and both times were not successful. That lost the project valuable time. We then had a lucky break as Ann Edwards was asked to join a funding group called Cronfa Eleri. This is an organisation set up by the company which built the windmills at Bont-goch and which contributes £10,000 a year to local organisations within the surrounding area. This has been a godsend as the money is catch free - as long as the organisation asking for funding complies with Cronfa Eleri's criteria; if the Cronfa committee pass the application then the requesting body gets the money without having to match fund or anything like that. This is valuable as so many funding bodies ask for match funding before they give you a penny and this can be very hard for a small community seeking to raise the amount of money required before the funding body will give you their money.

Corporate Edge had presented their final short-list of (two) 'evocative' names proposed for the new Museum. Some of the most promising names had to be excluded because they were already the subject of copyright. Considering these two names, and considering the need for the name to work both in England and Wales, the NWMS Steering Group had recommended that neither of these names should be pursued further. The Steering Group had come to the conclusion that the existing working project name, National Waterfront Museum (with or without 'Swansea) Swansea, should be adopted as the formal name for the new Museum. The Minister for Culture, Sport and the Welsh Language was to be consulted on this proposal. Much disappointment was expressed by Council that a new name could not be found for this the first museum to be built since the year of free entry but some felt that the existing name avoided disruption and would allow a more fundamental review of NMGW's brand to be undertaken at a later stage. It would also fit in with the extensive "waterfront" redevelopment now underway in Swansea. The President would report Council's views to the next board meeting of NWMS.
