Schade eigentlich, dass der Künstler seinen Architektureingriff am Eröffnungsabend dann doch nicht zeigen will. Denn der Kontrast zwischen der hier herrschenden Toskana- Idylle und dem technoiden Fremdkörper könnte auf das Eindrücklichste den Umbruchprozess illustrieren, in dem sich das traditionsreiche Künstlerhaus an der Via Senese nahe der Porta Romana seit ein paar Monaten befindet.

Sie alle haben uns sehr inspiriert, weil sie uns vom ersten Moment an zu erkennen gegeben haben, wie großartig und einzigartig das ist, was wir machen. Denn nach einigen Wochen am Schiff vergisst man, in was für einem unheimlich schönen Ausnahmezustand man lebt. Die Gäste haben dieses Bewusstsein immer wieder aufgefrischt. Spätestens nach fünf Minuten auf dem Schiff haben alle leuchtende Augen bekommen.

Fábulas metafóricas acerca del concepto de la muerte alejadas de los tópicos. Retratos del paso de la niñez a la adolescencia, recreaciones de reencuentros con los que ya no están. Proyectos que están a medio camino entre la realidad y la ficción, y representaciones acerca del vacío y los espacios de poder. Imágenes que nacen del texto y paisajes en estado de continuos caminos provocados por el devenir de la propia naturaleza y la existencia del hombre. De esta forma, con un marco conceptual común al que hace referencia el título, las obras seleccionadas transitan por esquemas conceptuales, documentales e, incluso, perfomativos. In cambio, questa esposizione vuole sottolineare la pluralità di stili e di estetiche che oggi caratterizzano la fotografia latinoamericana; esibirne tutta la sua ricchezza e il suo potenziale. Uomini ai quali viene restituita la loro identità attraverso i costumi del passato e donne che spogliandosi si mostrano in tutta la loro alterigia. Favole metaforiche riferite al concetto della morte ma ben lontane dai topici. Ritratti del passaggio dall’infanzia all’adolescenza, ricreazione d’incontri con coloro che già non ci sono più. Progetti che sono a metà strada tra la realtà e la fiction, e rappresentazioni che si riferiscono al vuoto ed agli spazi di potere. Immagini che nascono dal testo e paesaggi in stato di continui percorsi provocati dal divenire della propria natura e dall’esistenza dell’uomo. In questa maniera, in una cornice concettuale comune alla quale si riferisce il titolo, le opere selezionate transitano attraverso degli schemi concettuali, documentali ed anche di performance. Mitgebracht hat sie der junge Düsseldorfer Künstler Michail Pirgelis, der an diesem Augustnachmittag testet, ob sich die Installation für die offizielle Wiedereröffnung des Künstlerhauses Anfang September eignen könnte. Pirgelis zählt wie die Malerinnen Barbara Kussinger und Silke Markefka und die Video- und Installationskünstlerin Andrea Faciu zu den diesjährigen Preisträgern der Villa Romana, die hier für rund zehn Monate leben und arbeiten. Schade eigentlich, dass der Künstler seinen Architektureingriff am Eröffnungsabend dann doch nicht zeigen will. Denn der Kontrast zwischen der hier herrschenden Toskana- Idylle und dem technoiden Fremdkörper könnte auf das Eindrücklichste den Umbruchprozess illustrieren, in dem sich das traditionsreiche Künstlerhaus an der Via Senese nahe der Porta Romana seit ein paar Monaten befindet.

Qu'il me soit avant tout permis d'exprimer ma reconnaissance à M. Gordon W. Stead à qui je dois d'avoir été invité, au nom du ministère des Transports, à préparer cet ouvrage et qui, tout au long de sa préparation ne m'a pas un instant ménagé ses encouragements. J'ai pu grâce à avoir accès aux archives tout entières des services maritimes,- dossiers ou documents parlementaires,- qui ont constitué ma source principale de documentation. Les deux années de recherches ou de rédaction qui ont suivi ont assurément été parmi les plus satisfaisantes de ma carrière.
