Dr Morton Digby Leigh has been acclaimed as the 'Father of Paediatric Anaesthesia' in Canada. He made his important contributions at a time when a number of pioneering physicians had established the specialty, but most anesthetics were administered by untrained general practitioners, pediatricians or nurses. Although adult anesthesia was slowly evolving, few gave special considerations to dealing with children. In 1938, Dr Leigh joined Drs Wesley Bourne and Harold Randall Griffith in Montreal as the third, and youngest, member of the 'Great Triumvirate' of Canadian anesthesia. This group made an enormous impact on the future directions of the specialty: as a result of their dedication to clinical service, teaching and research, in the organization of professional societies, and by their publications in the specialty journals. They responded to the increased role for anesthesia in the wartime period and the need for a dramatic expansion of clinical services which followed. Throughout, Dr Leigh dedicated his career to the pursuit of the professionalism of anesthesia and gaining recognition for the sub-specialty of pediatric anesthesia.

En 1938, le Dr Leigh s’est joint aux Drs Wesley Bourne et Harold Randall Griffith à Montréal à titre de troisième et plus jeune membre du « Grand Triumvirat » de l’anesthésie canadienne. Ce groupe a eu un effet important sur les orientations futures de la spécialité, grâce à son dévouement aux services cliniques, à l’enseignement, à la recherche et à l’organisation des sociétés professionnelles, et par ses publications dans les journaux spécialisés. Les trois médecins ont répondu à la demande d’un rôle accru pour l’anesthésie en période de guerre et au besoin d’expansion spectaculaire des services cliniques qui s’en est suivi. Le Dr Leigh a toujours voué sa carrière à la recherche du professionnalisme en anesthésie et à la reconnaissance de la surspécialité que constitue l’anesthésie pédiatrique.

Då jag var 13 år började jag sommarjobba och har sedan dess arbetat med allt möjligt. Från dagis till snabbmatsförsäljare, guide, hotellreceptionist, Muminvärlden och julgrans försäljare! Nu har jag anlänt till M/S Viking Grace för att underhålla Dig! Du kan hitta mig i en ovanlig kostym eller på ett underligt ställe utan att veta vad som kommer att hända härnäst. Jag älskar nämligen att överraska både passagerare och arbetskolleger! Ena stunden kan jag dansa loss på barnens disco, i nästa ögonblick vara sjunga med trubaduren. With such an exceptional creation under his belt, and encouraged by his recent induction into the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants – its youngest member at just 27 years of age -, Andreas Strehler decided to take his first steps at the world watch fair in Basel.

Fort de cette réalisation d’exception et conforté par sa toute récente admission au sein de l’Académie horlogère des créateurs indépendants, Andreas Strehler, son plus jeune membre âgé alors de 27 ans, décide de faire ses premiers pas au Salon mondial de l’horlogerie de Bâle. À n’en pas douter, le tapis rouge était déjà déroulé, les sentiers de la gloire entièrement balisés ! Ces espoirs seront vite douchés. Personne ne connaissait Andreas Strehler et personne ne l’attendait. Même constat un an plus tard, lorsqu’il présente sa Zwei, montre de poche à double affichage par poussoir, les aiguilles servant alternativement à indiquer les heures et minutes ou la date et le mois. Mais si le public, tout comme la presse spécialisée, boude le jeune horloger, tel n’est pas le cas de l’industrie. Entré dans le radar des marques, il se voit désormais sollicité pour le développement de nouveaux calibres. Une activité qui va pleinement l’occuper au point de fonder la société UhrTeil afin d’instaurer une séparation claire entre la sous-traitance et les montres portant son nom, dont il ne désespère pas d’agrandir la famille. Reste que les Maisons se pressent au portillon, parmi lesquelles Harry Winston, qui le mandate pour la réalisation de l’Opus 7, une montre indiquant alternativement sur disques les heures, minutes et la réserve de marche par poussoir. Elle sera déclinée en 61 exemplaires. Andreas Strehler vient de franchir une nouvelle étape. En 2006, il s’installe à Sirnach.
