Since then, local politicians and press have worked to make the entire town a porn-free zone. A dangerous trend, writes the Göteborgs-Posten: "Certainly, no one is obliged to approve of the image of women in erotic magazines ... or their even less tasteful cousins. But disdain for certain magazines is one thing, and preventing people from buying these magazines with threats, censorship and by massively influencing opinion is another. Even trashy literature is protected by the freedom of expression. But when the unions, politicians and press of a small town unite against it, tolerance is restricted. Piteå-Tidningen newspaper writes in its leading article that those in power are entitled to use their positions provided it is not to further their own interests. So the end justifies the means. That is an alarming stance to take on democracy and the rule of law."

Une tendance dangereuse pense le quotidien Göteborgs-Posten : "Bien sûr, on n'est pas obligé d'aimer l'image de la femme que présentent les magazines pour hommes ... et les produits analogues encore moins raffinés. Mais mépriser le goût de certaines revues est une chose, utiliser la menace, la censure et une propagande de masse visant à empêcher des gens d'acheter ces revues, en est une autre. La liberté d'expression protège même la littérature de pacotille. Or, lorsque des syndicats, des politiques municipaux et la presse locale d'une petite ville s'associent, la tolérance s'en trouve diminuée. Le journal de Piteå écrit dans son éditorial que les puissants doivent utiliser leur position lorsqu'il ne s'agit pas de leurs propres intérêts financiers. La fin justifie donc les moyens. C'est une vision inquiétante de la démocratie et de l'Etat de droit."

Eine gefährliche Tendenz, findet die Tageszeitung Göteborgs-Posten: "Sicher muss man das Frauenbild von Herrenzeitschriften ... und der noch weniger geschmackvollen Verwandtschaft nicht mögen. Aber den Geschmack gewisser Zeitschriften zu verachten ist eine Sache, mit Drohung, Zensur und massiver Meinungsmache zu verhindern, dass Menschen diese Zeitschriften kaufen, eine andere. Auch Schundliteratur wird von der freien Meinungsäußerung geschützt. Aber wenn sich Gewerkschaften, kommunale Politiker und die örtliche Presse einer Kleinstadt zusammentun, wird die Toleranz beschnitten. Die Piteå-Zeitung schreibt in ihrem Leitartikel, dass die Mächtigen ihre Stellung benutzen dürfen, wenn es nicht um eigene Gewinninteressen geht. Der Zweck heiligt also die Mittel. Das ist eine beängstigende Sichtweise auf Demokratie und Rechtsstaat."
