Elles veulent aujourd’hui accroître le nombre et la taille des projets qui contribuent à lutter contre le changement climatique en restaurant les écosystèmes qui fournissent des ressources vitales à des populations parmi les plus vulnérables. De plus, ces projets permettent aux entreprises de compenser de manière volontaire leurs émissions de CO2, en complément de leurs efforts pour réduire l’empreinte carbone de leur activité. Elles sont motivées par les résultats obtenus par le premier Fonds Carbone Livelihoods : 1 million de bénéficiaires parmi les communautés les plus défavorisées de pays en développement ; 130 millions d’arbres plantés, soit une surface équivalente à 5 fois la superficie de Paris ; 120 000 familles équipées de foyers de cuisson améliorés qui réduisent la déforestation et préservent la santé des femmes ; 10 millions de tonnes de CO2 séquestrées ou évitées à terme (les projets durent entre 10 et 20 ans).
