As a business owner with employees, you are also a boss. But how do you become an effective leader of your troops? Like many entrepreneurs, you may have started your business with little or no prior management experience. If so, to become a strong leader, you may have to learn on the fly.

There is also one other former obstacle that has now disappeared. Programming languages, such as Modgen, currently enable researchers with only moderate programming skills - comparable to those needed for statistical software packages - to implement their models.

Fish harvesters and government soon recognized that if vessel size was not regulated the tendency would be for the largest enterprises to get the lion's share of the quota while harvesters with smaller vessels would lose their economic viability. These competitive pressures still operate in some fleets and between fleets when overall allocations are contested.

Faced with limited information, the coaches had to take matters into their own hands and identify what the keys to success for their teams are. Playing with more desperation seems to be a common train of thought.

I agree.  I would add the point made by the chambers judge about the narrowness of the respondent’s work experience, and underline the difficulty of someone now approaching 60 years of age to re-enter the labour force after a lengthy absence and with few marketable skills outside the limits of her former job at the bank, now eliminated.

Today, millions of people practise the exercises that Swami Vishnudevananda began teaching in the West fifty years ago. Gyms, fitness centres and wellness hotels offer yoga classes, and yoga is finding new practitioners everyday. The founding of more than 70 Sivananda centres and ashrams around the world is proof of the enormous achievement of the dynamic yoga master. To name a few of the locations: New York, Montreal, the headquarters in Val Morin (Quebec), San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Nassau (Bahamas), London, Paris, Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Reith near Kitzbühel, Geneva, Madrid, Tel Aviv, Delhi, Chennai, Neyyardam (Kerala), Uttarkashi (Himalayas), Buenos Aires, Montevideo.

Whether modernised or not, however, the major military forces of the Latin American states are, and will likely remain, land forces. In the late 1990s, naval and maritime-capable air forces in the region were relatively small and no change in this situation by 2020 is forecast. In the Caribbean and Central America, maritime forces are marginal in size, with most states possessing only a few coastal patrol vessels. Given the cost of modern ocean-going warships and maritime weapon systems, coupled with the low probability of external attack on their borders, it is considered unlikely that these states will acquire any significant naval capabilities over the next two decades. Thus, only Token or Constabulary Navies are anticipated. Several South American navies likely will undergo some modernisation of weapons, sensors and command and control systems. Many will no doubt remain technically and tactically proficient, possibly falling in the realm of Offshore Territorial Defence Navies. Nevertheless, with the possible exception of Argentina and Chile, they are projected to remain marginal in size and capabilities compared to the leading NATO naval forces.1

Researchers now have the tools to address much more complex and realistic questions about the development of psychopathy in young children. Some Canadian studies using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth (NLSCY) and the Québec Longitudinal Study of Child Development (QLSCD) have led to the first descriptions of the development of early childhood mental health problems. For example, one study in children 2 to 11 years of age found that those with atypically high physical aggression trajectories were more likely to be boys, from low income families, with mothers who had not completed high school and who reported using hostile or ineffective parenting strategies.1 Another looked at the early development of hyperactive symptoms in children from 2 to 7 years and found that maternal prenatal smoking, child male gender, maternal depression and hostile parenting were early predictors of highlevel hyperactive symptoms.2 This knowledge can be used to better target prevention and intervention efforts. For example, Sylvana Côté and her colleagues showed that children of mothers with low level education who went to day care before 9 months of age were less likely to have physical aggression problems during early childhood.3
