Seven species of sea turtles have been identified. They are distributed around the world in subtropical and tropical areas. They spend their lives at sea, where they migrate between their foraging and nesting grounds.

Neem oil is an organic pesticide extracted from neem tree seeds (Azadirachta indica). This tree, also known as nimtree and Indian lilac, is native to India and Burma. Its leaves and oils have been used for therapeutic and cosmetic purposes for more than 4500 years. The neem tree is also grown in subtropical and tropical areas of Asia, America and Australia, due to its multiple properties.

This is the most effective and reliable method of seed production. Broodfish are kept in water saturated with oxygen, within the temperature range of 20-24 ºC. They are given two doses of pituitary gland injection, or a mixture of GnRH/dopamine antagonist, to induce ovulation and spermiation. The eggs are fertilized (applying the 'dry method') and the adhesiveness of the eggs is eliminated using salt/urea treatment, followed by a tannin acid bath (the 'Woynarovich method'). Incubation is carried out in Zoug jars. The hatched fry are kept in large conical tanks for 1 to 3 days, and are usually stocked at the stage of 'swim-up' or 'feeding fry' into properly prepared ponds. Approximately 300 000 to 800 000 newly hatched fry can be expected from a single female.

Over the past 10 years, South Africa's Sugar Milling Research Institute (SMRI) has developed a number of instruments for making process measurements in factories. In most cases, the instruments were developed because commercial instruments were unavailable or unsuitable for use in the harsh environment of sugar factories. Equipment developed by the SMRI include instruments for torque measurement, conductivity tracer testing, volumetric measurement on a conveyor, measurement of total suspended solids in a mud mixer, measurement of mud consistency from a clarifier, evaporator scaling, Preparation Index, mill lift, juice clarity, clarifier mud level and pressure in pressure feeder chutes. A brief description of each instrument or method, and some application examples, are given. From authors' summary. In Proceedings South African Sugar Technologists' Association, no. 73, p. 277-281

3. The general public today is well aware of the state of degradation of the planet, and the major risks that this implies, in terms of the consequences of global warming linked to emission of green house gases, in particular: rising sea levels (by thermal dilation and/or supplemented by melting of ice caps and glaciers), accentuation of the geographical polarisation of rainfall (increases in temperate latitudes and decreases in subtropical zones), increasing intensity of cyclones and typhoons, flooding, displacement of zones of habitation for animals and plants, shifting of seasons for harvest… Certain consequences of climate change are already in evidence: freshwater shortages, soil depletion resulting in decreases in agricultural yields, biodiversity losses, destruction of cultural sites and of course, the environment… Others remain totally unknown: modification of ocean currents, extension of epidemic zones, others will probably be cumulative in effect, such as increasing methane releases linked to melting of the ice caps, energy consumption for air conditioning… These developments will certainly exacerbate regional and international conflicts relating to the control of resources (oil…), access to water, “environmental” migration, and forced displacement of populations in response to extreme climate events.
