Des représentants de gouvernements, d’ONG et du Haut-Commissariat aux réfugiés (HCR) ont pris part à la cérémonie organisée au Palais des Nations à l’occasion du lancement de l’initiative Nansen, ainsi nommée en mémoire de Fridtjof Nansen, explorateur polaire et premier haut-commissaire des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés.

The ceremony in the Palais des Nations to launch the Nansen Initiative, which is named after the polar explorer and first High Commissioner for Refugees Fridtjof Nansen, was attended by numerous representatives of states, NGOs and the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Manuel Bessler, the Federal Council delegate for humanitarian aid, representing Switzerland, said in his address: "During my deployments in affected regions such as the Horn of Africa I found that cross-border movements caused by natural disasters are a real problem that has increased in importance in recent years.

An der Zeremonie im Palais des Nations zur Lancierung der Nansen-Initiative, die nach dem Polarforscher und ersten Hochkommissar für Flüchtlinge, Fridtjof Nansen benannt ist, nahmen zahlreiche Vertreter von Staaten und NGOs sowie des Hochkommissariats für Flüchtlinge (UNHCR) teil. Manuel Bessler, der in seiner Funktion als Delegierter des Bundesrats für Humanitäre Hilfe, die Schweiz vertrat, sagte in seiner Ansprache: „Im Rahmen meiner Einsätze in betroffenen Regionen wie beispielsweise dem Horn von Afrika habe ich feststellen können, dass grenzüberschreitende Flucht infolge von Naturkatastrophen ein reales Problem darstellt, das in den letzten Jahren stark an Bedeutung gewonnen hat.“

Alla cerimonia di inaugurazione dell'iniziativa Nansen, che prende il nome dall'esploratore polare e primo Alto Commissario per i rifugiati Fridtjof Nansen e che si è tenuta nel Palazzo delle Nazioni, hanno partecipato numerosi rappresentanti di governi, ONG e dell'Alto Commissariato delle Nazioni Unite per i rifugiati (ACNUR). Nel suo discorso Manuel Bessler, che rappresentava la Svizzera in veste di delegato del Consiglio federale per l'Aiuto umanitario, ha affermato: «Durante le missioni nelle regioni colpite, come ad esempio nel Corno d'Africa, ho constatato che la migrazione transfrontaliera dovuta a catastrofi naturali rappresenta un fenomeno reale che negli ultimi anni è aumentato sensibilmente.»
