In April of 2007 I had my knee surgery. Although I will never be able to play hockey at the level I did in the past, I will return one day to the rink. I've found more time now to do things I didn't have the time to do before, especially with the CHS. I co-chair our National Youth Committee, which I would never have been able to accomplish if I had continued on my hockey path. This experience was something that taught me to really believe that everything does happen for a reason and, no matter how it may appear at first, something good will always come out of it.

BESIX RED found an ideal site: the Galerie Kons, conveniently located in front of the Luxembourg central station and a few steps away from the ‘Gare’ tram stop. ING quickly confirmed its interest in this unique location, after which the teams started the works. The entire site was rebuilt in a mere 28 months.

Nancy began playing the oboe when she was nine years old, studying initially with her mother Jean Wetherill, herself an amateur oboist. The youngest of five children, Nancy joined her four siblings (all of whom became professional musicians) in the Wetherill Woodwind Quintet and the family performed concerts at various venues in the Philadelphia region. Nancy began her studies with Louis Rosenblatt (former English Horn of the Philadelphia Orchestra) when she was 12 years old and stayed with him right through the completion of her Bachelors of Music Performance at Temple University in Philadelphia. Nancy was participating in the Marcel Moyce (the world famous flautist and woodwind coach) seminar in Brattleboro, Vermont when she heard that her then fiancé, Lance, had been awarded the concertmaster job with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra in Hamilton, Ontario. Since that time, Nancy has been a freelance musician in the Hamilton and Toronto area. In 1993, the HPO was looking for a new music librarian and approached her to see if she was interested. Nancy took up the challenge -- and discovered an affinity for the music library. Several years later, she was invited to be assistant librarian in the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Nancy accepted the new position and also stayed on in Hamilton, becoming perhaps one of the only simultaneous cross-border music librarians in North America. She worked at both jobs for nine years as well as continuing oboe performances in Toronto and Buffalo. Nancy is delighted to now be working and living in Ottawa with such a magnificent orchestra and friendly people and truly enjoys focusing her skills on the NACO library.

The NRC oversees this research being carried onboard a grounded Boeing 737 at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) Aerospace Technology Campus. NRC researchers have helped successfully transfer a new fuel cell system to the commercial aerospace sector, while addressing very rigorous integration and safety requirements. This involved transferring compressed hydrogen from a mobile fuelling cart to a storage cylinder onboard the aircraft and then operating the system to power the rear galley and brew coffee. Building on experiences gained in ground transport and mobile applications, technology readiness demos are key to advancing fuel cells for aviation use.

The inclusion of RFID technology in the EDL is a U.S. requirement. Strategies have been put in place to ensure the protection of EDL information. The RFID chip contains no personal information. It contains two sets of unique numbers: a tag identification number embedded by the manufacturer to prevent cloning, and an encoded RFID tag number containing a series of 1s and 0s used to retrieve information from the secure EDL database housed in Canada. The chip is passive, does not transmit information and can only be read from a short distance. Participating provinces and territories will be required to issue EDLs with a protective sleeve to prevent fraudulent activities. The CBSA has been advised that testing has proven that even at maximum power in the RFID reader, the cards were not readable while in the sleeve. The CBSA has no plans to add personal information to the RFID chip;

In order to prepare for the course, participants had to complete a “Leadership Development Profile” – a questionnaire designed to identify each participant’s leadership style, strengths and weaknesses. I came from Songea district to Dar es Salaam with my parents because they were coming here to work. I started primary school but after Standard Seven I couldn't continue with secondary school since my father was having problems with his job. After Standard Seven, I started a relationship and then got married in 1983. In 1988 I had my first child. My husband was not faithful and he was always moving up and down with other women. That was my second child and after giving birth that same year my husband died.

It was previously demonstrated that microbial communities of pig manure were composed of both bacteria and archaea. Recent studies have showed that bacteria were aerosolized from pig manure, but none have ever focused on the airborne archaeal burden. This study aims to develop and apply molecular ecology approaches to thoroughly characterize airborne archaea from swine confinement buildings (SCB). Eight swine operations were visited twice in winter and once during summer. IOM cassettes loaded with 25 mm gelatin filters were used to capture the inhalable microbial biomass. Total genomic DNA was extracted and used as a template for PCR amplification of the archaeal 16S ribosomal RNA gene (rDNA). High concentrations of archaea were found in SCB bioaerosols, being as high as 108 16S rRNA gene copies per cubic meter of air. Construction and sequencing of 16S rRNA gene libraries revealed that all sequences were closely related to methanogenic archaea, such as Methanosphaera stadtmanae (94.7% of the archaeal biodiversity). Archaeal community profiles were compared by 16S rRNA gene denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE). This analysis showed similar fingerprints in each SCB and confirmed the predominance of methanogenic archaea in the bioaerosols. This study brings a new light on the nature of bioaerosols in SCB and suggests that archaea are also aerosolized from pig manure.

Inclusion: No It Really Is Exclusion—While the disability rights movement works for inclusion, there are still those who take exclusive approaches. One new example of an exclusive approach is the new Federal ministerial advisory committee on accessible transportation.While this body used to be composed of representatives of consumer organizations, it has become an appointed body of individuals. The problem with this model is that the appointees are not accountable to the grassroots. It excludes the knowledge, expertise and interests of grassroots Canadians with disabilities. CCD has learned that this body has met but the names of its members continue to be a well kept secret. This is happening at a time when consumers are indentifying new barriers in the transportation system and dealing with persistent, on-going obstacles. A series of Federal Transportation Ministers have refused to meet with CCD to discuss our wish to see the development of transportation regulations. CCD will continue to push for regulation and a meeting.
