I manage and coordinate wildfire activity and responses through the NWT from the Forest Management Division Operations Centre in Fort Smith.  The major part of my work is to ensure that personnel, equipment, and aircraft are in place for the fire season.   That includes contracts, operating procedures, training, and other important processes.  I don’t do all of this alone and am part of a very large dynamic team that includes co-workers in the division and throughout the North.   I am expected to provide leadership and direction to this team.   In addition, the NWT, through our division, is part of a national/international effort that provides firefighting resources (personnel, equipment, and aircraft) throughout Canada and the US.  Our resources have been dispatched as far south as Oregon and as far east as Quebec.

Yesterday was a day I'll not soon forget. I used my annual volunteer leave day and volunteered at the Genies. What a great opportunity since it was being televised at the Aviation Museum in Ottawa this year. So that the lights and teleprompters could be adjusted correctly, I spent the day accepting fake awards--really a water bottle since the real awards were locked up somewhere. The afternoon consisted of dry runs with the actual stars. My title was Talent Wrangler, and I was responsible for getting the stars to and from their seats at the appropriate times. I spent a fantastic evening volunteering, while enjoying the glitter, the celebrities, and the red carpet. What an electrifying environment! It was a long day but well worth it.

My paper was presented to the Superior Council of Magistrates in Timor Leste. Im Bereich Forschung und Evaluation wird keine Forschung im engeren Sinn des Wortes betrieben. Die Rolle der Projektleiter besteht darin, als Auftraggeber für Forschungsprojekte zu fungieren und sich für deren Gelingen einzusetzen. Meine Aufgabe besteht in der umfassenden Projektbetreuung von der Phase der Ausschreibung und der Auswahl der Partner bis zur Übergabe des Schlussberichts. Dal 2003 la Confederazione sostiene un programma con cui intende promuovere la creazione di ulteriori posti in strutture di custodia per bambini. La durata del sostegno finanziario è limitata nel tempo. Sulla base del progetto di valutazione bisognerà decidere se i posti in strutture di custodia per bambini finanziati con questo programma permarranno anche dopo la fine del sostegno finanziario esterno. Nel settore ricerca e valutazione non viene svolta nessuna ricerca in senso stretto. Il ruolo del capoprogetto è fungere da committente per progetti di ricerca e adoperarsi per il loro successo. Il mio compito consiste nella gestione completa del progetto, ovvero dal bando e dalla scelta dei partner fino alla consegna del rapporto finale. Al riguardo accompagno e sostengo il capoprogetto nei suoi lavori scientifici e amministrativi.
