Si raccomanda la visita al convento delle suore benedettine di S. Giovanni, oltre il confine italo-svizzero, risalente al periodo carolingio (con affreschi murali del primo medioevo).

Taufers/Tubre is situated at the border of Swiss Engadine (Canton of Graubünden). Interesting groups of typical old Rhaeto-Romanic houses lend character to the village. Romanic frescoes can be admired in the Church of St. Johann in Taufers. It is worth visiting the nearby Rotund and Reichenberg ruins, owned until 1310 by the Churer bishops, and on the way to Glurns the Calvenbrücke bridge, a site of historical battles. A visit to the St. Johann Benedictine Monastery dating back to Carolingian times (with early medieval wall frescoes) on the other side of the Italian-Swiss border is highly recommended. This monastery is one of the most important artistic monuments in Europe and has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List!

It was introduced in the 17th century by the nuns who working in convents to make fake flowers with wax, cloth and paper. Paper is the material used by a mute elderly lady who displays her colorful flower arrangements a couple of doors down the road.

The Frankish king was crowned emperor by Pope Leo III in 800, thus becoming the first medieval ruler of the Western world. Local folklore, according to which the religious community was founded by Charlemagne himself between 780-90, has been confirmed by recent archaeological research and the dendrochronogical date 775. St John’s was founded as a monastery and converted into a convent in the 12th century. Benedictine nuns still live in the convent today. At the 1983 meeting of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, the Convent of St John was elevated to a World Heritage Site. It is the most important church building in Switzerland from the period before the turn of the millennium, with the largest preserved cycle of frescoes from the Early Middle Ages.

Beside the typical agricultural production Mirabella Imbaccari, is a typically local artistic centre: the main artistic production is the lace-pillow embroidery. It is a very thin fabric, obtained by the weaving of a flax thread and of a cotton one by means of wood bobbins, skilfully manouvred by expert hands on a sort of pillow, more precisely the lace-pillow. This job dates back to the beginning of the century: the "Opera del Tombolo" rises as a social institution to give work to the local female youth where the princes of Biscari from Catania spent their free time. In 1910 the initiative was officially recognized following the arrival of four nuns of the order of Santa Dorotea, called to continue the work which had already begun. From then on, the lace-pillow became a typical activity of the village, in fact in 1986 a "Mostra Permanente del Tombolo" (a permanent show of the lace-pillow) was inaugurated. In the halls of the ex preparatory school, it has an important series of these characteristic works.

Aussi pour la marche en cours d'exécution, la plage pêche ou équitation l'emplacement est idéal, mais la meilleure solution reste les jours de plage lorsqu'il fait beau donc du B & B avec la serviette sur l'épaule de sorte que la plage est sur.

The correspondance between Fr. Allegra and the Studium Biblicum of Jerusalem ended with two letters written some months before his death. Allegra be recognised and officially proclaimed. In the letter by the Studium Biblicum one can read among other things : "He left us an image of a religious truly dedicated to the Lord and a excellent teacher. His affable and modest attitude, always consistent, always ready to see the will of God in the decisions of his superiors, revealed distinctly an extensive training in the spiritual life. The priestly duties he carried out readily and generously left a deep impression on everyone. He fulfilled his academic activities at school, in conferences and in scientific publications, always with modesty in order to give God the glory for the gifts he had received".

Their resounding success led to a total of four bathing areas, two of which are still in operation today. In the 1930s the ban on swimming in open areas of the Rhine was lifted, and nowadays the river is used every summer by hundreds of people with their special swimming bags invented in the 19th century. One of the highlights of the summer swimming season is Basel Rhine Swimming, which has been organised by the Basel department of the Swiss Lifesaving Society since 1980 and which attracts more than a thousand participants each year. And there are some Basel residents who enjoy a dip in the Rhine every day, irrespective of the season.
